Abstract

The study's aim is to identify the Doppler profile of ovarian endometrioma. The study consists of a case-control analysis and also an analysis with type-representative sample. The case-control analysis includes two groups of patients: group I-50 patients diagnosed with endometriosis ovarian cyst, group II-50 patients without gynecologic pathology (control group). The diagnosis of endometriosis was established after histopathological analysis of the parts obtained intraoperatively. Patients in both groups were examined using endovaginal Doppler ultrasound in order to determine the resistivity index (RI) level of the ovarian and uterine arteries as well of endometrial vessels in the proliferative phase. The type sample analysis contains a group of 50 patients with endometriosis ovarian cyst, who were examined before surgery by endovaginal Doppler ultrasound, in order to determine the resistivity index level of the ovarian, uterine arteries and of endometrial and intramural vessels in the proliferative phase compared with the late secretory phase. RI of the ovarian and uterine arteries and also of endometrial vessels in the proliferative phase, is significantly lower in patients with endometriosis compared with control group. The vasculature in patients with endometriosis in the ovarian artery, uterine artery, endometrial and intramural vessels, quantified by RI, is increased during the late luteal phase compared with the proliferative one. Doppler ultrasonography performed in different phases of the menstrual cycle can bring important information in the diagnosis of endometriosis ovarian cyst.
