This study evaluated the impact of 24-week danazol therapy on haematological and coagulation parameters in eighteen pre-menopausal women diagnosed with endometriosis. The treatment resulted in significant increases in haemoglobin, red cell count, platelet count, and functional levels of protein C, protein S, and antithrombin III, while plasma fibrinogen levels decreased. Although whole blood viscosity rose significantly during treatment and remained elevated at follow-up, the authors noted that changes in coagulation inhibitors might be beneficial regarding venous thromboembolism risk despite caution needed for arterial cardiovascular disease.
