This study investigated infectious agents in women with endometrial hyperplasia and found human papillomavirus types 16 and 18 to be significantly more prevalent compared to a control group.

The paper studied the role of infectious pathogens in the development of endometrial hyperplastic processes in women of reproductive age, comparing 90 patients with histologically confirmed benign endometrial hyperplasia (after operative hysteroscopy) to a control group of 30 women. Using immunoassays (IgG/IgM ELISA) and PCR tests, it assessed several genital-tract pathogens including Mycoplasma hominis, Ureaplasma urealiticum, Chlamydia trachomatis, Herpes simplex virus types 1/2, Gardnerella vaginalis, Trichomonas vaginalis, and HPV types 16 and 18. HPV 16/18 was detected most often among infectious agents, at 40.0–41.67% in the study groups versus 10.0% in controls. This paper is centrally about endometrial hyperplastic processes and considers infectious pathogens as cofactors in endometrial inflammatory processes; it is relevant to endometriosis/adenomyosis because it references infectious/inflammatory mechanisms in pelvic gynecologic pathology, though it does not explicitly discuss endometriosis or adenomyosis.
