Abstract

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects around 1 in 10 individuals assigned female at birth predominantly during their reproductive years, estimated at 190 million people worldwide. Although some research exists regarding the role of diet in the primary prevention of endometriosis, this chapter focuses on the dietary management of existing endometriosis. In the diagnostic workup, clinical investigations can include vaginal examinations and imaging. Recent research has suggested that dietary interventions may be beneficial beyond providing symptomatic relief in endometriosis. It is important to consider a multidisciplinary approach to endometriosis care, as the condition can lead to significant physical, mental, relationship and financial burdens. In endometriosis, where symptoms such as pain, fatigue and bloating cannot always be objectively measured, self‐reported measures, including validated questionnaires such as patient‐reported outcome measures, allow patients to capture their perspective on their condition whilst allowing the health care provider to determine if strategies implemented were successful.
