EFFICACY OF INTRAPERITONEAL INTERFERON-α ADMINISTRATION FOR TREATMENT OF ENDOMETRIOSIS IN RATS
Intraperitoneal interferon-α induced regression of endometriotic lesions in half of rats, while reducing proliferative activity, vascularization, and macrophage infiltration within the remaining ectopic endometrial foci.

This study evaluated the therapeutic potential of intraperitoneal recombinant rat alpha-interferon in a Wistar rat model of surgically induced endometriosis. The researchers assessed treatment efficacy by monitoring the regression of ectopic endometrial tissue, cellular proliferation rates, vascularization levels, and leukocyte infiltration within the transplanted lesions. Results indicated that local interferon application led to the regression of endometriotic heterotopias in 50% of cases, while also significantly reducing cell proliferation and vascularization and increasing lymphocytic infiltration in remaining tissues. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — specifically investigating an immunomodulatory treatment approach for experimental endometriosis in a rodent model.
