This chapter provides an overview of reproductive endocrinology and infertility care, focusing on evaluation and management in couples experiencing infertility, including ovulation induction and in vitro fertilization. It discusses differential diagnosis considerations for vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, and adnexal masses in this patient population, and reviews complications of infertility treatment such as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, pelvic infections, ovarian torsion, and ectopic pregnancy. As a narrative overview rather than original research, it summarizes existing literature and does not present new data, with the caveat that coverage is broad and intended for clinical reference. Relevance to endometriosis: the chapter cites endometriotic cysts/endometriomas in the context of IVF risks and imaging/aspiration topics (including infected endometriotic cysts), though its main focus is reproductive endocrinology and infertility management rather than endometriosis specifically.

Abstract

Up to 15 % of couples experience infertility; this chapter provides an overview of reproductive endocrinology care, including ovulation induction and in vitro fertilization. The differential diagnosis of vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, and adnexal masses in this specific patient population is discussed. The diagnosis and management of complications of infertility care—including ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), pelvic infections, ovarian torsion and ectopic pregnancy—are reviewed.
