Ultrasound and MR-imaging in preoperative evaluation of two rare cases of scar endometriosis
Two cases of scar endometriosis were accurately diagnosed preoperatively using ultrasound and MRI, leading to successful surgical excision confirmed by pathology.

This paper is a case report describing two rare instances of cutaneous scar endometriosis developing after cesarean section, in women with atypical cyclic pain and a firm abdominal scar lump. Both cases were systematically evaluated preoperatively using 2-D ultrasound with power Doppler and MRI, which showed hypoechoic masses with internal echoes and internal vascularity on Doppler, with MRI findings that localized the lesions in subcutaneous tissue and characterized their signal intensity and enhancement patterns; histology after surgical excision confirmed endometriosis. The authors note that there is no available evidence on cost-effectiveness of diagnostic strategies due to the condition’s rarity, and imaging findings are not specific on ultrasound alone. This paper is centrally about endometriosis—specifically scar (incisional/cutaneous) endometriosis after cesarean section evaluated with ultrasound and MRI.
