Analysis of the clinical efficacy of leuprolide acetate in the treatment of obese patients with endometriosis and its role on the expression of MIF gene
This study compared leuprolide acetate's efficacy and MIF gene expression changes in obese versus non-obese women with endometriosis over six months, finding similar pain reduction but increased MIF expression and side effects in obese patients.

This paper evaluated the clinical efficacy of leuprolide acetate (3.75 mg monthly for 6 months, intramuscularly) in a clinical trial of 75 women with endometriosis aged 18–35, stratified by BMI (<30 vs ≥30). Both BMI groups showed significant reductions in dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, and chronic pelvic pain after treatment, but the authors reported no statistically significant difference in symptom improvement between the BMI groups. Side effects differed by BMI, with more hypoestrogenism-related complaints in the BMI <30 group and more endogenous signs (e.g., oily skin, acne, hirsutism) in the BMI ≥30 group; MIF gene expression measured by real-time PCR increased after treatment and the increase was statistically significant only in the BMI ≥30 group (P=0.042). This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it studies leuprolide acetate’s efficacy in obese versus non-obese patients and its effects on MIF gene expression.
