This chapter reviews the use of laparoscopic surgery in gynecology, including how recent minimally invasive approaches have been applied to both benign and malignant indications, and extends the discussion to non-obstetric abdominal surgery performed during pregnancy. It emphasizes that favorable outcomes depend on careful patient selection and on achieving requisite laparoscopic skill acquisition. A stated limitation is that the guidance is presented at a high level as a practice-oriented overview rather than as a single systematic study with specific outcomes. Relevance to endometriosis: the chapter cites and discusses endometriosis-related laparoscopic surgery in the broader literature context (including Cochrane review evidence on “Laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis”) though its main focus is laparoscopic surgery in gynecology and pregnancy.

Abstract

Recent advances in minimally invasive techniques have been applied to gynecological surgeries with favorable outcomes. This trend also applies to non-obstetric abdominal surgeries during pregnancy. The indications for laparoscopic surgery in gynecology can be broadly divided into benign and malignant conditions. Careful patient selection and requisite laparoscopic skill acquisition are indispensable to this modern-day practice.
