AYURVEDIC TREATMENT OF SCAR ENDOMETRIOSIS: A CASE REPORT

Background: Surgical Scar endometriosis is a rare condition representing about 2 per cent of all endometriosis cases. Scar endometriosis is a condition in which endometrial tissue grows over the surgical scar and begins to proliferate. The diagnosis of scar endo can be challenging, as it is often confused with other dermatological or surgical conditions, which delays its diagnosis. Case Presentation: We report the case of a 35-year-old female with a history of caesarean section, presenting with cyclical pain and swelling at the scar site. On examination, a tender nodule was palpated; ultrasound imag-ing showed features consistent with scar endometriosis. Serum CA-125 was modestly elevated. Ayurvedic Management: The patient was treated using Leech therapy (Jalaukavacharana), external therapies, and Vasti (medicated enema) in accordance with Ayurvedic diagnosis of Vidradhi / Granthi and Rakta-Pitta viti-ation. Outcome: Over the course of a 3-month treatment, there was a significant reduction in pain (as measured by the VAS scale), a decrease in the size of the nodule, a decrease in CA-125 levels, and no recurrence over a 6-month follow-up period. Conclusion: This case suggests that Ayurvedic treatments may offer a significant response in scar endometrio-sis, reducing symptoms, lesion size, and biomarkers. More rigorous studies are needed.
