Abstract

Objective To investigate expression of cyclooxygenase2(COX-2),keratinocyte growth factor(KGF)in ectopic tissues of ovary, and eutopic endometria of patients with endometriosis(EMs) and their correlation with clinical stages, manifestations of the disease and menstrual cycles of the patients. Methods Using streptomycin avdin cyclooxygenase2 linked immunohistochemistry method, the expression of COX-2 and KGF in ovarian ectopic tissues and eutopic endometria of 30 EMs patients with chocolate cyst(endometrial cyst) were detected. Results The positive expression rate of COX-2 in normal endometria and eutopic endometria and ectopic tissues in endometriosis increased more and more(53.3%,70%,93.3%,respectively),and there was significant difference(P0.01).The expression of COX-2 in normal endometria and eutopic endometria in endometriosis was affected by menstrual cycles of the patients: that in secretory phase(71.4%,84.6%) was higher than that in proliferative phase(37.5%,58.5%),and there was significant difference(P0.05,P0.01).While the expression of COX-2 was not associated with clinical stages of endometriosis(P0.05),and it was associated with dysmenorrhea in endometriosis(P0.05).The positive expression rate of KGF in normal endometria and eutopic endometria and ectopic tissues in endometriosis was also increased more and more(50%,66.7%,93.3%,respectively),and there was significant difference(P0.01).The expression of KGF in normal endometria and eutopic endometria in endometriosis was also affected by menstrual cycles of the patients: that in secretory phase(85.71%,92.3%) was higher than that in proliferative phase(18.75%,47.06%),and there was significant difference(both P0.01).The expression of KGF was not associated with clinical stages of endometriosis(P0.05).In endometriosis,COX-2 and KGF were closely correlated with each other(r=0.52).Conclusion COX-2 and KGF may play important roles in development of endometriosis, and they have close relation in occurrence and development of endometriosis and this may provide new treatment targets for endometriosis.
