Abstract
To study outcomes and complications during pregnancy and delivery in women with a posterior deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) nodule persisting after surgery and diagnosed at transvaginal sonography (TVS). Multicentre prospective study including a group of 101 women less than 40 years old, with a posterior DIE larger than 2 cm in diameter at TVS planning a pregnancy. Before an accurate TVS examination to map endometriotic lesions and the presence of adenomyosis, clinical characteristics of patients were collected. All women had previously incomplete surgery with hystologically confirmed DIE. All data related to pregnancy (see figure 1) and delivery were collected from medical charts and by phone interviews. Of the 101 women with a posterior DIE nodule, 52 become pregnant of which 25 with assisted reproductive technologies (ART). Of these 52 pregnancies 11 ended in early abortion and 41 delivered a baby, 13 (31.7%) of which had a premature delivery, 7 (17.8%) placenta previa while 28 (68.2%) had C-section. In 13 of these C sections major surgical complications (46.4%) occurred. No statistically significant differences have been observed in women with adenomyosis associated DIE or in women who conceived by ART.
