Abstract

Due to factors such as outdoor environment deterioration and the COVID-19 pandemic, high-air-volume purifiers (HAVPs) have been increasingly applied in all types of public areas. By comparing the air purifier standards in the United States, Europe and other countries, most lack relevant detection guidelines for HAVPs. Only Chinese and South Korean standards are considered. However, there remains a lack of theoretical and experimental studies on accuracy testing of HAVPs. In this study, the effect of the test chamber volume on the HAVP performance accuracy was evaluated in terms of the amount of effective data, pollutant uniformity, and purifier position. The results showed that the clean air delivery rate (CADR) deviation varied between 18.6% and 32.2% due to the effect of the test chamber volume. The test accuracy was higher for the 60 m3 test chamber, which is suitable for the HAVP testing. A new evaluation index based on the relationship between the CADR accuracy and the test chamber volume was proposed, revealing that accurate air purifier performance test results can be obtained when the equivalent clean air volume ventilation rate varies between 9 and 22. Therefore, it is recommended that the upper detection limit of HAVPs be considered in Korean standards, and the HAVP air volume range in Chinese standards should be further refined. The results provide a reference for the rapid selection of the appropriate test chamber volume for air purifiers with different air volumes.
