Abstract
Objective To observe the expression of Galectin-3 in endometrial polyps and analyze the possible relationship between Galectin-3 and endometrial polyps. Methods Immunohistochemical staining was used to observe the expression of galectin-3 in cases of premenopausal endometrial polyp, postmenopausal endometrial polyp and normal endometria. The samples in this study 51cases of premenopausal endometrial polyp,43 cases of normal premenopausal endometria,40 cases of postmenopausal endometrial polyp,38 cases of normal postmenopausal endometrial. Results ①The positive expression of galectin-3 was seen in premenopausal endometrial polyps and normal endometrial. The positive expression rate was significantly higher in endometrial polyps than that in normal endometria (x2 =37.640,P < 0.01 ).②The positive expression of galectin-3 was seen in postmenopausal endometrial polyps and normal endometria. The positive expression rate was significantly higher in postmenopausal endometrial polyps than that in normal postmenopausal endometria(x2 =30.664,P< 0.01 ).③No difference was found between the positive expression rates of galectin-3 in premenopausal and in postmenopausal endometrial polyps (x2 =1.894,P > 0.05 ).Conclusion Higher expression of galectin-3 rate in both premenopausal and postmenopausal polyps may indicate the relationship between galectin-3 and the etiology of endometrial polyp. In addition,galehctin-3 is not a risk of malignant transformation in postmenopausal polyp.
