Disruptive Business Model for Higher Education

Abstract
The higher education landscape has significantly evolved with the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) and outcome-driven business models. This study explores how IoT technologies and new business models are transforming higher education, particularly in light of global disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic. A key innovation discussed is the concept of personalized degrees, allowing students to design custom degree programs accredited by frameworks like ABET (Ac-creditation Board for Engineering and Technology) to match their learning objectives. The study investigates current trends in higher education, focusing on IoT’s role in creating flexible educa-tional models that address the needs of modern learners and the workforce. An empirical survey was conducted involving students, faculty, and parents to assess the use of online learning technologies in higher education. The survey results support the potential of this new business model, but also reveal significant resistance to change, particularly from teachers, parents, and students who doubt the effectiveness of online education. As a result, higher education institu-tions must undertake campaigns to inform and persuade stakeholders about the value and le-gitimacy of these innovative models, to drive acceptance and adoption.
