Abstract

Objective To assess the effectiveness and define predictive factors for the outcomes of adenomyosis after uterine artery embolization. Methods Ninty-three patients with adenomyosis who underwent uterine artery embolization in our department were examined.Variables include imaging parameters, blood CA 125 level and diameters of embolic particles.Predictive factors for the outcome of adenomyosis after uterine artery embolization were defined. Results (1) UAE resulted in 49.74% (t=3.43,p=0.002)significant reductions rate in mean uterine volume of a total of ninty-three patients after 3 months.(2) The significant reduction rate of uterine volume of seventy-six patients who were obviously enhanced with MRI scan was 59.32% (t=5.02,p=0.001);whereas seventeen patients who were little enhanced with MRI scan had a uterine volume reduction rate of 22.3% (t=1.15,p=0.46).(3)The blood level of CA125 of sixty-two patients before the treatment and on three, six and 12 months after the treatment was120.3±38.1kU/L,46.2±21.3kU/L, 38.2±18.9kU/L and 28.1±16.5kU/L.The uterine volume reduction rate was 65.8% (t=3.32,p=0.002);thirty-one patients with normal CA125 level had a uterine volume reduction rate of 6.3% (t=1.42,p=0.34).(4)Smaller embolic particles have better embolization results. Conclusion Regression models indicated that through clinical examination and analysis, patients who are suitable for this treatment can be selected. They could have more effective and safe results.
