Methodology to Determine the Driving Cycle on Urban Routes in the City of Guayaquil

Abstract
Due to the lack of representativeness of standardized cycles such as the FTP-75, designed for specific regions and not adapted to cities such as Guayaquil, this study aimed to determine the representative driving cycles for the most congested urban routes of the city, covering the north, south, center and west zones. The methodology used was the direct method, carrying out trips in scenarios with real traffic. An M1 vehicle equipped with the OBDLINK MX+ device was used, which allowed data collection in real time. These data were processed and analyzed with the OBDWIZ program to characterize local driving patterns. With the support of the Minitab tool, the sample size was determined from the data obtained in the pilot tests performed on each route. In addition, normality tests were performed on each route to determine the distribution of the data and apply the most appropriate measure of central tendency. Finally, using the weighting criteria method, the representative cycle for each route was determined. The results obtained showed that, on Route 1, the selected repetition was 7, with an average speed of 65.39 km/h and a maximum speed of 79 km/h. For Route 2, repetition 11 was selected, with an average speed of 21.39 km/h and a maximum speed of 67 km/h. For Route 3, the chosen repetition was 2, with an average speed of 11.05 km/h and a maximum speed of 50 km/h. Finally, for Route 4, the selected repetition was 5, with an average speed of 16.27 km/h and a maximum of 39 km/h.
