Catamenial pneumothorax
The paper studied catamenial pneumothorax, described as recurrent spontaneous pneumothorax in women occurring in the interval of 72 hours before to after menstruation, and presented a narrative review of scientific publications along with a clinical observation. It reports that although catamenial pneumothorax is one of the more common manifestations of thoracic endometriosis, the causal link to gynecologic disease is often established late. A key emphasis is that in women—especially of reproductive age—spontaneous pneumothorax should prompt consideration of a catamenial pattern, with the limitation that the work is an overview plus a single clinical case rather than new population-level evidence. Relevance to endometriosis: the abstract explicitly states that catamenial pneumothorax is one of the most frequent presentations of thoracic endometriosis and that the pathogenesis is usually confirmed with delay.
