Abstract

There is a definite place for laparoscopy in gynaecology as a diagnostic tool and for limited operative procedures. Nevertheless, the indication for laparoscopy should be subjected to the same strict criteria as any other operative procedure. The use of laparoscopy and its various indications are discussed. So-called major operative laparoscopy or pelviscopy is rejected. Greatest restraint should be employed to use laparoscopy for obtaining biopsy material from ovarian tumours for diagnostic purposes.
