Abstract

Bakgrund: Endometrios är en av de vanligaste gynekologiska sjukdomarna och drabbar ungefär en av tio kvinnor i fertil ålder. Sjukdomen innebär att endometrieceller växer utanför livmodern och orsakar bland annat smärta, menstruationsrubbningar och nedsatt fertilitet. Trots svåra symtom är tiden till diagnos ofta lång, vilket kan förvärra symtomen. Studien tar sin teoretiska utgångspunkt i Katie Erikssons teori om lidande. Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva kvinnors upplevelser av att leva med endometrios. Metod: En allmän litteraturöversikt baserad på kvalitativa vetenskapliga artiklar. Datainsamlingen genomfördes i databaserna Cinahl och PubMed med sökblock utformade enligt PEO-modellen. Analysen utgick från Fribergs fyra analyssteg för en allmän litteraturöversikt av kvalitativ forskning. Författarna genomförde en kvalitets- och etisk granskning. Resultat: Resultatet framställdes genom fyra teman med sammanlagt elva subteman där kvinnornas upplevelser av att leva med endometrios beskrevs. Upplevelserna belystes ur flera olika delar av kvinnornas vardagliga liv med fokus på både fysiska och psykiska effekter av sjukdomens påverkan. Resultatet baserades på 15 artiklar. Slutsats: Endometrios är en komplex och mångdimensionell sjukdom som medför omfattande lidande i de drabbade kvinnornas liv. Sjukdomen har både kroppslig och emotionell påverkan och även om kvinnornas upplevelser är individuella finns flera tydliga gemensamma komponenter i hur de upplever livet med endometrios.
