Exploring Mechanisms Which Underlie the Experience of Pain Among People with Endometriosis

other OA: green CC0

Abstract

Our research primarily aims to better understand the factors which cause and maintain endometriosis pain. We aim to build on a recent study by Todd et al. (2023), where Fear of Progression was found to be an important factor associated with pain interference, pain severity, and poor psychosocial outcomes in people with endometriosis. To the best of our knowledge, our study will be the first to test whether key constructs (existential concerns, interpretation bias, and metacognitions) from three leading models of FOPR are associated with FOPR, pain impact, and poor psychosocial outcomes in people with endometriosis. This is an important first step in identifying potential causes and consequences of FOPR in people with endometriosis.
