Abstract

To the Editor: In the February, 1962, issue of theArchives of Dermatology, Dr. L. Popoff et al. reported a case of endometriosis of the skin. We, in the 382d meeting of Tokyo Society of the Japanese Dermatological Association held at Juntendo University on Jan. 23, 1960, presented a quite similar case of umbilical endometriosis seen in a 42-year-old housewife, the first case in Japan. In our case, a semiglobular nodule, 22 mm. in diameter, was situated at the lower wall of the umbilicus, thus occupying almost the entire cavity of the umbilicus. On palpation, the tumor was felt to be situated from the corium to the subcutaneous fatty tissue, and besides, the basis of the tumor was palpated as being extended deeply downward to the fascia. Surgical treatment disclosed that the center of the tumor strongly adhered to the fascia of rectus abdominis muscle. Histology revealed the same characteristic
