Abstract

Objective To explore the expression of Survivin in adenomyosis tissues and in eutopic endometrium. Methods Immunohistochemical streptavidin-biotin peroxidase was applied to compare the expression of Survivin between ectopic lesions within myometrium and eutopic endometrium from 22 women with adenomyosis and normal endometrium from 30 healthy controls. Results The expression of Survivin in ectopic lesion of adenomyosis group was significantly higher than that of eutopic endometrium in adenomyosis group and higher than normal endometrium in control group. The Survivin expression of ectopic lesion was higher in proliferative phase than in secretion phase. The Survivin expression in eutopic endometrium in adenomyosis group was higher than normal endometrium in healthy control. Neither eutopic endometrium in adenomyosis group nor normal endometrium in control group showed cyclic variation of the Survivin expression. Conclusion The overexpression of Survivin plays an important role in the pathogenesis and the development of adenomyosis.[
