Could Your Mobile Broadband Internet Provider Threaten Your Digital Privacy?

Recent events have shown that mobile phone users’ privacy is more and more flouted. Like computer users, smartphone users are subject to internet service providers’ web tracking. This paper studies how mobile network operators practices can lead to loss of privacy for mobile phone subscribers. The evolution of smartphone users’ privacy rights is reviewed. The location tracking improvement from 2G to 5G networks could be a threat for privacy. The legality of sharing location data with third parties is also studied. This article presents recent works that aim to protect mobile phone users’ privacy against communication service providers.
