Taking the A-share manufacturing companies listed in Shanghai and Shenzhen of China from 2011 to 2021 as the research sample, we explore the impact of different slack resources on enterprise green innovation. The empirical results show that: absorbed slack resources, unabsorbed slack resources and enterprise green innovation have an inverted U-shaped relationship; enterprise digital transformation plays a partly mediating role in the relationship between absorbed slack resources, unabsorbed slack resources and enterprise green innovation; environmental regulation positively moderates the inverted U-shape relationship between absorbed slack resources, unabsorbed slack resources and enterprise green innovation; and further analysis reveals that the relationship between absorbed slack resources, unabsorbed slack resources and enterprise green innovation is inverted U-shape. Further analysis reveals that the inverted U-shaped relationship between absorbed slack resources, unabsorbed slack resources, and enterprise green innovation is more significant in firms with a lower average age of management and a higher degree of peer group of green innovation. The results of the study provide a theoretical basis and practical guidance for the manufacturing industry to utilize slack resources to actively carry out green innovation in line with the development of the digital economy.
