Despite the benefits of the CSD sector, developers continue to confront numerous challenges in software sustainability and integrating sustainable software generated by multiple developers into a final product. In our earlier study, we used the systematic literature review (SLR) technique to identify a list of eleven factors that influence sustainability aspects of crowdsourced software development. In order to validate the SLR findings, we conducted an empirical investigation in the CSD industry via a questionnaire survey. This study seeks to identify and analyze factors which influence sustainability aspects of crowdsourced software development. A questionnaire survey of 57 experts was conducted using the SLR findings. A Likert scale of five points was used for evaluating the importance of every factor in determining sustainability aspects in crowdsourced software development. According to our research, eight factors are crucial for producing sustainable software in CSD. We further analyzed these factors based on different variables such as job position, software sustainability as an important element, participant familiarity with sustainability, importance-based software sustainability to the organization, motivation of CSD participants, and dimension-based. We identified three significant differences: ”Privacy and intellectual property rights violations in job position-based analysis,” ”Lack of knowledge and awareness about sustainability in the importance of software sustainability to the organization,” and ”Work incentives in the motivation of CSD participants.” Additionally, we found no significant differences in the factors related to software sustainability, an important element, as participants are familiar with sustainability and its dimension-based aspects.
