Public peer review of Sauvé & Bhachu (2023) “Let’s talk about it: Positivism and critical theory in dialogue”

This preprint is a public version of my peer review of this public preprint, modified slightly to anonymize the name of the journal that requested the review. I am posting it as part of my commitment to making my peer reviews public as much as possible. I appreciate the chance to review this provocative manuscript [Sauvé & Bhachu, 2023]. I’m sympathetic to the authors’ goals (and have cited the related paper by the first author). But I must be blunt: I can’t imagine this getting published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal in anything like it’s present form. So I unfortunately have to recommend rejection, while encouraging the authors to either fundamentally rewrite their (valuable) ideas or submit it to a more suitable publication outlet.
