This paper addresses the importance of bridging controlled behavioural experiments with participatory scenario planning to tackle such dilemmas, thus promoting cooperation and sustainable outcomes. We present a novel approach that combines experimental insights with stakeholder co-creation to build and test social dilemma scenarios mapped onto take-some, give-some, lose-lose, and win-win states. The contributions of this study derive from both experimental evidence that illuminates behavioural drivers of cooperation and participatory methods that build scenario narratives and translate them into experimental designs. By uniting these approaches, our framework offers a practical blueprint for conservation researchers, practitioners and policymakers seeking evidence-based and stakeholder-informed solutions that align individual incentives with collective ecological goals.
