Abstract

SummaryForty patients previously diagnosed as having unexplained infertility underwent repeat laparoscopy combined with a simplified cycle of gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT). Thirteen patients (33 per cent) had abnormal findings at laparoscopy. There were four cases of endometriosis, one of which was stage III, five cases of non-occlusive tubal disease, one case of severe bilateral inflammatory tubal disease, resulting in cancellation of the GIFT procedure, and three cases of uterine myo-mata. Ten clinical pregnancies resulted from the GIFT procedures, nine of which occurred in the group with normal findings at laparoscopy.
