Endometriosis:Diagnosis with MRI Imaging

Objective To analyze the MRI features of endometriosis. Methods Endometriosis diagnosed by MRI in 51 cases were retropectivey studied. All were proved by surgery and pathology. Results Uterus enlarged in 48 cases , 30 cases show diffuse and low-intensity area accompanied by tiny high-intensity spots on both T2WI and T1WI; 21 cases show tiny high-intensity spots on T2WI and low-intensity on T1WI. 29 cysts in 24 cases, 15 showed high signal intensity on T1WI and T2WI ,5 as high on T1WI and as medium or low T2WI ,9 as mixed. Conclusions Diagnosing endometriosis in MRI depends on:(1) Local or diffuse low-intensity area accompanied by tiny high-intensity spots on both T2WI and T1WI in Uterus.(2) High and mixed signal, mainly with high or medium signal on both T1WI and T2WI in cyst.
