Abstract
Ninety-six patients with endometriosis of pelvic peritoneum and endometriosis of uterosacral ligaments were treated in our gynecologic center during 1992. The diagnosis was made on the basis of clinical signs and the results of laboratory tests and instrumental investigations and included pain syndrome, infertility, laparoscopy with biopsy of endometriosis, and histologic investigation of samples. After the diagnosis was confirmed treatment was carried out in two groups: laparoscopic bipolar coagulation, 40 (41.6%); bipolar coagulation followed by danazol 200 mg twice a day without interruption, 56 (58.3%). Evaluation of the treatment efficacy was by two criteria: absence of endometriosis lesions demonstrated at second look laparoscopy four months later; pregnancy during a 1 year period. Bipolar coagulation resulted in absence of endometriosis lesions in 23 patients (57.5%). Fifteen patients (37.5%) conceived. The results of combined treatment were 52 (92.8%) and 36 (64.2%), respectively. The investigation results supported the view that the combined method of bipolar coagulation and danozol to be the most effective for treatment of small endometriosis lesions.
