Abstract
Introduction: Turner syndrome (TS) is a genetic disorder affecting females that arises from a partial or complete loss of X chromosome material. This disorder occurs in 1 in every 2500 live female births. TS is associated with a number of characteristic physical features such as short stature, gonadal dysgenesis, infertility, kidney and cardiac anomalies, lack of pubertal maturation, as well as a particular neuropsychological profile and social and behavioral features, a particular neurocognitive profile of normal range of IQ and normally developed language abilities and impaired visual-spatial and/or visual-perceptual abilities. It is common practice in the case of TS to treat short stature with Growth hormone and to induce puberty with estrogens at an age as close to normal puberty as possible. This approach in most cases leads to a height in the normal range in childhood, adolescence and adulthood in TS. But results of some studies show that even after reaching a height in most cases within the normal range and puberty induction at a pubertal age, some women with TS still experience psychosocial problems, impaired cognitive functions and lower quality of life. The aim of the study was to examine emotional state in adult women with Turner syndrome. Patients and methods: 65 young women (age 31.1±9.2 years) with genetical confirmed TS and 65 healthy age- and sex-matched controls (age 29.9±7.0 years) were recruited for the study, p=0,677. Emotional state (domains of tension-anxiety, depression-dejection, anger-hostility, vigouractivity, fatigue-inertia, and confusion-bewilderment) was evaluated using Profile of Mood States (POMS). Adult height, concentrations of Thyroid - stimulating hormone (TSH), Free thyroxine (FT4), Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), Estradiol (E2), Luteinizing hormone (LH), Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were measured in TS patients for evaluating possible correlations between hormone
