Literature review: Guidelines for the management of endometriosis

Guidelines are essential to provide comprehensive recommendations on best course of action, based on sound scientific evidence and expert opinion. Although a plethora of guidelines are available for management of endometriosis, it still remains a challenge for clinicians. Some of the prominent set of guidelines are those given by ESHRE, ACOG, SOGC, FOGSI, etc. This chapter provides an exhaustive review of the majority of these guidelines, comparing their points of agreement as well as highlighting the differences. It is intended to be a one-stop solution for the practicing clinicians, seeking protocolized management of their patients. Controversial areas such as hormonal treatment of endometriosis, role of surgery in pelvic endometriosis with infertility, and diagnosis of deep infiltrating endometriosis have been dealt with in detail.
