Abstract
Background: Endometriosis is a common gynecological disorder affecting around 10% of reproductive aged women. Endometriosis is found in 25% to 40% of women with infertility and 40-87% of women with chronic pelvic pain have endometriosis. Aim of the Work: To investigate if antioxidant (Vitamin E and Vitamin C) administration to patients with endometriosis can decrease pelvic pain in these women. Patients and Methods: A randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted on gynecological outpatient clinic at Al-Hussein Hospital 60 women, aged 19–41 years with body mass index [BMI] between 18- 24.9 Kg/m² with pelvic pain and history of endometriosis and/or infertility. All women were consented to be on trial for 2 months before surgical intervention. Results: There was non-significant difference between the studied groups as regard age, parity, or fertility, anthropometric measures (BMI). Our results showed that there was non-significant difference between the studied groups as regard baseline clinical data as regard every day pain as 30% in antioxidant group showed decreased pain compared to 0% in placebo group, dysmenorrhea as 26.6% in antioxidant group showed decreased pain compared to 0% in placebo group and dyspareunia as 16.6% in antioxidant group showed decreased pain compared to 0% in placebo group.Conclusion: Our results showed that there was non-significant difference between the studied groups as regard age, gravidity, parity, or fertility, anthropometric measures (BMI), complaint distribution (Pelvic pain and no subfertility, subfertility and no Pelvic pain).
