Abstract

Objective To explore role of MRI in diagnosis of adenomyosis by findings on MRI. Methods 36 cases of adenomyosis that were confirmed by surgery or pathology during 1997~2004 were reviewed.Their MRI findings were compared with findings from postoperative pathology and B type ultrasonic exam. Results Adenomyosis falls apart into two types as diffuse and topical, featuring three key points:(1)thickened combing belt wider than 1.2cm; (2)blurred demarcation between lesion and its surroundings: (3)snow sign in T 2 WI lesions, indicating multiple high power signals.1 case was mistakenly diagnosed by MRI,and as for B ultrasound,9 were mistak- enly diagnosed, and 2 were missed. Conclusion MRI has some unique features in diagnosis of adenomyosis deserving to play a referral role in case lack of B ultrasonic exam.
