Abstract
Objective:To investigate the erythropoietin (Epo) levels in peritoneal fluid (PF) from endometriosis and its role on pathogenesis of endometriosis. Methods: The Epo levels of PF in 40 patients with endometriosis (test group) and 25 patients without endometriosis (control group) were detected with a method of CLIA. Results: The Epo levels in PF were significantly higher in test group than those in control group[(13.64±3.84)mIU/ml,(7.54±1.13)mIU/ml,respectively, P0.01]. The Epo levels in AF of the patients with mild endometriosis were significantly higher than those in severe patients[(17.63±2.67)mIU/ ml,(11.06±1.23)mIU/ml, respectively, P 0.05]. Conclusion: The results suggest that Epo levels increase in PF of patients with endometriosis, but have an inverse correlation with the extent of endometriosis. These changes of Epo levels in PF may play a role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis.
