Abstract
Objectives: The main objective of this study was to determine the rate of knowledge regarding the definition of endometriosis by freelance midwives in the following departments: Ain, Drôme, Isère, Haute-Savoie and Savoie. Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study by hetero-survey over the period from September 2019 to 31st of January 2020. Results: The participation rate was 8.2%. Of the freelance midwives asked, 88.4% knew the exact definition of endometriosis. Regarding the management of endometriosis, 70% of the freelance midwives asked considered themselves to be "not at all" or "not very" competent. The most common symptoms known by freelance midwives are dysmenorrhoea and deep dyspareunia. More than half of freelance midwives "never" or "sometimes" prescribe a therapy or an additional exam for further investigation. Freelance midwives have difficulty referring patients to other professionals. Conclusion: Freelance midwives wish to improve their knowledge in the management of endometriosis. Nowadays, it is now necessary to structure a network of professionals at different levels in order to improve patient management.
