The expression of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in local endometrium of woman using IUD with abnormal uterine bleeding

Abstract

Objective:To investigate the focal expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) and tissue inhibitor of metailoproteinase-l(TIMP-I) in endometrium of woman using IUD with abnormal uterine bleeding and the correlation between MMP-9 and estrogen receptor(ER),proaestogen receptor(PR).Methods:The expression of MMP-9,TIMP-1,ER and PR in endometrium was detected by immunohistochemistry in 10 cases of normal women without using IUD and 24 cases of normal women using IUD and 25 cases of women using IUD with abnormal uterine bleeding.Results:The expression of MMP-9 in the focal bleeding position was significantly higher than that in normal position of endometrium and the other two groups.The expression of TIMP-1 in the focal bleeding position was significantly lower than that in normal position of endometrium and the other two groups.The expression of ER and PR in stroma of focal bleeding position was degraded.Comparing with the other groups the difference was significant.The focal expression of MMP-9 was not significantly correlated with the expression of ER and PR.Conclusion:The high expression of MMP-9 and the low expression of TIMP-1 in the focal bleeding position is possibly the direct reason leading to abnormal bleeding in IUD users.The lower expression of ER and PR in the focal bleeding stroma is probably relation to abnormal bleeding in IUD users.The changed expression of MMP-9 is not caused by the changes of ER or PR.
