The Chenggong New District of Kunming City faces water resource shortages and urban flooding hazards. This study employed SWMM and Mike Urban model to simulate the effects of Sponge City Measures (SCMs). The results indicate that (1) the group of four SCMs demonstrates the best effect. For 50-year return period, the reduction rate of flood peak flow and inundated area are 24.52% and 43.18%, respectively.(2)the runoff coefficient decreases to 0.37 and the reducing rate for flooding risk level is 33.51%. (3) Green roof is the most effective, with an abatement rate of 0.72% per km 2 . (4) Retention Ponds volume accounts for 4.46% of 5-year return period flood, which satisfy the 5,000-acre green area's dry-season water needs or 27501 residents' domestic water use for one month. In conclusion, SCMs effectively address flooding and insufficient water supply issues in the study area. urban flooding Sponge City Measures SWMM and Mike Urban model flood resource utilization central Yunnan region Full Text Cite Share Download PDF Status: Under Review Version 1 posted Reviewers invited by journal 07 May, 2026 Editor invited by journal 07 May, 2026 Editor assigned by journal 16 Apr, 2026 First submitted to journal 16 Apr, 2026 You are reading this latest preprint version Research Square lets you share your work early, gain feedback from the community, and start making changes to your manuscript prior to peer review in a journal.
