Evaluation of transvaginal sonography in the diagnosis and therapy of ovarian endometriosis and adenomyosis

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the transvaginal sonography and serum CA 125 in the diagnosis and therapy of ovarian endometriosis and adenomyosis. Methods A total of 631 patients with endometriosis and/or adenomyosis were examined by transvaginal sonography and serum CA 125 mesurement.Some of them underwent ovarian cyst penetration with assistance of transvagianal sonography. Results The accurate rates of diagnosis with transvaginal sonography for ovary endometriosis cyst,adenomyosis and ovary endometriosis cyst complicated by adenomyosis were 98.7%,91.7% and 95.1%,respectively.While the diagnosis accuracies of serum CA 125 for the three groups were 39.4%,52.2% and 59.2%,respectively. Conclusions Transvaginal sonography can be the first choice to diagnose the ovarian endometriosis and adenomyosis correctly.The cyst penetration assisted by transvaginal sonography is one of the simple and effective methods to treat the ovary endometriosis cyst.Serum CA 125 is helpful in diagnosis of endometriosis and adenomyosis.
