Abstract
To evaluate the coagulation effects of different percentage alcohol kept in the cavity of induced endometriomas on the rat model to find out the optimal duration of destroying the endometriomas. To evaluate the therapeutic effect of absolute alcohol kept in cavities of ovarian endometrial cyst (OEC) for 3 min by ultrasound-guided puncture and injection in clinical patients. 50 female rats having had 90 artificially induced endometriomas. 56 endometriomas were given absolute, 90%, 80%, 75% alcohol and preserved for 1, 2, 3 or 5 min respectively. Other 34 were kept as control. The rats were bred for another 2, 4 or 6 weeks. Then the status of the induced endometrioma were examined. 126 cases of OEC were treated by ultrasound-guided aspirations and absolute alcohol sclerosing for 3 min. Therapeutic effects were followed-up regularly. Alcohol injected into the endometriomas can eliminate it. The eliminate rate was 86.4% with absolute alcohol, 88.9% with 90% alcohol, and 60% with 75% alcohol respectively. The eliminate rates of trial groups were significantly higher than that of the control group (7.4%). The endometria of endometriomas disappeared completely when absolute alcohol preserved for 1 min and 90% alcohol preserved for 3 min. The remaining endometriomas treated with 75% alcohol have an endometrial livability of 66.7%. Of the 126 clinical cases of OEC, 123 got success in the first therapy, 2 got success in the second treatment, but 1 was not quite successful in the first therapy and operated afterwards. The short-time effective rate was 100% and the cure rate was 79% in 2 years. Absolute alcohol kept for 1 min, and 90% alcohol remaining for 3 min may result in completely coagulated necrosis in the ectopic endometrium in animal models. Absolute alcohol remaining in the cavity of endometriomas for 3 min can eradicate it.
