Abstract

Objective To investigate the diagnostic significance of serum vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in patients with endometriosis(EM).Methods The levels of serum VEGF were measured by enzyme-linked immunoadsordent assay(ELISA) in 100 women with EM in comparison with 43 women without EM before and after surgery. Results The levels of serum VEGF in EM group before surgery were significantly higher than that in the control group(P0.01).VEGF level of EM stages Ⅲ-Ⅳ was significantly higher than that of stages Ⅰ-Ⅱ(P0.01).The levels of VEGF appeared lowered rapidly after surgery(P0.01).The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of serum VEGF(142 ng/L) in detecting endometriosis were 0.930,0.930,0.968 and 0.833;when the levels of serum VEGF was 260 ng/L,we could know the stage of EM.Conclusion The serum level of VEGF is an important markers for endometriosis, and may be useful index for evaluation of clinical efficacy and prognosis.
