Abstract

Abstract This article proposes an efficient resource allocation method for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) users to communicate among themselves in an underlaying multi-cell mm-Wave 5G cellular uplink network in an indoor environment for enhancing the coverage probability (CP) and area spectral efficiency (ASE) of the network. The IIoT users act as smart sensors in an indoor urban environment where the exchange of information takes place among each other through the 5G cellular network. Interference contributing factors of the mm-Wave band are also taken into account for analyzing its effect on IIoT users. This strictly limits the network coverage due to signal degradation over long distances. Thus, the expression for CP is derived by employing stochastic geometry methods, which improve network performance. Also, the expression for ASE is computed by deriving the probability density function (PDF) of the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) at the IIoT end user. Experimental results show a better output of CP of around 0.98 at 1 dB and 0.68 at 5 dB of transmit power for IIoT users with a pathloss exponent of 4. Furthermore, the system also achieves a maximum ASE value of 452 bps⁄Hz/m2 at a distance of 10 m between the IIoT users with a pathloss exponent of 4. Simulation results validate the obtained theoretical values.
