Accurate interpretation of whole body I-131 scan after thyroidectomy is critical to appropriate management of patients with thyroid cancer, to prevent unnecessary surgical removal or exposure to radioiodine. Abstract

The whole body I-131 scan is routinely performed in the postoperative treatment of patients with well-differentiated thyroid cancer. Accurate interpretation of whole body I-131 scan after thyroidectomy is critical to appropriate management of patients with thyroid cancer, to prevent unnecessary surgical removal or exposure to radioiodine.
