A comparative study on efficacy of Marvelon and Mirena in relieving pain caused by endometriosis

Abstract
Objective To compare the efficacy of Mirena and Marvelon in relieving pain caused by endometriosis.Methods Seventy two patients with endometriosis admitted in this hospital during July 2010 to February 2011 were randomly divided into trial group and control group,each with 36 patients,patients in trial group were treated with Marvelon,patients in control group were applied with Mirena for treatment,and the efficacy in remission of pain in patients of these two groups was compared.Results After treatment,patients with delayed menstruation for one month were seen in 3 cases,amenorrhea sustained for three months in 2 cases,and no significant change in remaining cases.Menstruation was delayed for 1.5 months in 2 cases of control group,amenorrhea was sustained for 2.8 months in 4 cases,and no significant change in remaining cases.After treatment,3 cases in trial group had severe pain,6 cases had moderate pain,and 27 cases relieved pain.In control group,2 cases had severe pain,8 cases had moderate pain and pain relieved in 26 cases.There was no statistically significant difference in relief of pain between these two groups(P0.05).Conclusion The application of Mirena and Marvelon in treatment of endometriosis,both of them can relieve pain.
