The prevalence and distribution characteristics of anxiety disorders, social support, and quality of life in the population many years after the lushan earthquake in Ya’an, China

Abstract
Purpose: To explore (1) the anxiety disorders prevalence, relevant infuencing factors of anxiety disorders; and (2) the current status of social support and quality of life of people with anxiety disorders in the affected areas many years after Lushan earthquake in Ya’an, China. Methods: An epidemiological mental health survey was conducted to identify the prevalence of anxiety disorders in general peoples in Ya’an.A multi-stage, group-matching random sampling method was adopted.By face-to-face interviewed,firt stage used the scale for preliminary screening by traned psychiatric nurses,and the second stage used the 5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V) for diagnosis by trained Psychiatrists. Results: There were 8876 valid questionnaires.The adjusted 12-month and lifetime prevalence of anxiety disorder was 3.83% and 4.44%,respectively.The total scores of SSRS and SF-36 in patients with anxiety disorder were lower than others(all P < 0.05). Regression analysis showed that being female, middle or old, and with chronic physical diseases were risk factors for anxiety disorder, and minority ethnicity, higher education level, and middle or high income were protective factors. Conclusion: Though after many years of Lushan earthquake, we also should pay more attention the people of th female, middle or old, with lower education level, lower income level, and chronic physical diseases.
