Abstract
A physics-based technique that started off as an undergraduate project could soon be helping women all over the world to avoid the distress of a hysterectomy. The method, which uses microwaves to destroy the inner lining of the womb, was developed by a team of British physicists and medics. It is designed to prevent heavy menstrual bleeding, a condition that affects about 18 million women every year, according to the World Health Organization.
