Intestinal endometriosis: A rare presentation of endometriosis

Endometriosis is the location of functional endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. Ectopic endometrial tissue is most commonly seen in pelvic organs, ovaries, sacrouterine ligaments, peritoneum, rectovaginal septum and cervix. Ectopic endometrial tissue can be seen in lungs, pleura, diaphragm, small and large intestines, gall bladder, kidneys, ureters, umbilicus, skin, central nervous system and extremities. Rectal bleeding, pelvic and abdominal pain, constipation and diarrhea, and bloating are the most common findings in intestinal endometriosis. We describe a patient who admitted with the complaints of pelvic pain and rectal bleeding and was diagnosed as intestinal endometriosis.
