Abstract
This Survey was conducted in Jimma Horro (Ethiopia) to assess honey production and marketing systems in three farm hand associations were nominated by means of purposive selection systems. From each PA, 48 beekeepers (a total of 144) were deliberately nominated and questioned by pre-tested, organized forms. Outcomes of the study presented that the mean honey yield per year/colony was 7.4, 11.25, and 20.6kg for traditional, transitional and moveable frame hives, respectively. Honey marketing contributors were producers, collectors, retailers and consumers. There was no variance in price of crude honey between study locations (P>0.05) and no significance difference (P>0.05) were observed. Honey yield per hive/year was found to be low from traditional and transitional hives as compared to moveable frame hive. Thus, strong extension and practical involvement is critical for agriculturalists to use the moveable frame hives and revenue of beekeepers within the study area. This study suggested as more emphasis should incline to the bee product diversification and processing and marketing system for the sake of the higher benefit.
