Abstract

Voiceless Spring is an educational board game that explores the intersection of science, technology, and society through the lens of Rachel Carson’s influential 1962 book, Silent Spring. The game aims to foster ecological literacy, encourage critical reflection, and engage learners in hands-on environmental education. By integrating game-based learning and gamification principles, Voiceless Spring invites players to navigate environmental dilemmas, learn scientific facts, and develop "green infrastructures" — all while exploring the intricate relationship between economic development and environmental protection. Initial pilot testing suggests that the game provides an enjoyable and meaningful way to cultivate awareness of, take action on, and engage in dialogue about ecological issues.
